another Belgian design company..

I knew about them for a long time, but I never wrote about them before..
My brother in law gave us a sliced vase as a gift

(I was as happy as a small child, you should have seen me.. )
the color we got is not in the picture above, it is more poison blue(ish)

the vase is only 10 cm or so deep, but the designer says that you can slice out a hole to accommodate any size flowerpot you like. you might even consider using it as a drinks cooler for outdoor parties..

the vase is also available with lighting, but as a DIY guy, I’m sure I can construct something myself..

their web site features many more great outdoor products..

If I ever wanted to buy a garden house, instead of building one myself, I would go for this one:

The Qube, saw it today on MocoLoco
their concept is exactly what I want to achieve with my gardern pavillion.. a place to relax in,
they even have a picture showing a pool table :) .
Unfortunantely we have decided to delay the project for a few months, I need to focus on the attic now to get the rooms finished as soon as possible..(baby is expected in 6 to 8 weeks..).
Next summer, we will resume building the Garden Pavillion.
Good thing that the concrete has been poured already, otherwise my building permit might have been revoked..

Thank You for the increased security, I’m feeling much better now…

Or…?

I had to travel to Denmark to give some training for a new partner. It was a short one day trip, leaving in the evening, and returning the next day. So I only packed some handluggage with the usual stuff, a toothbrus, sme clean clothes and a canister of deodorant.

while going trough the security checkpoint in brussles airport I saw that liquid in handluggage is limited to 100ml, my deodorant was 200ml, so I was pretty sure that is was going to be rejected.

indeed, deodorant was not allowed on the flight.

after clearing the securoty checkpoint, the first store I saw was a perfume store. selling dedorants in all sizes, all of them more than 100ml.. go figure..
I couls have bought several of these bottles and take them all on the plane..

however, naïve as I am? I took the cansiter with me when returning home the next day, and guess what, the did not allow the canister to come along again…

lessons learned:
put the one canister of deo in baggage check in, they can not refuse it, of course it will look stupid, and the canister will probably get lost along the way. but than you can reclaim it using los t luggage :)

Pouring…
and boy it was pouring, rain, that is…

problem: the guy with the concrete pump told me he could not reach the place from the street. I’m sure I explained the situation correctly while ordering the concrete..

Good thing I have a good relationship with my neighbors.. the trucks needed to be in a driveway of a flat complex. the pump had to cross three gardens before it reached it’s destination..

While the pump was unfolding, it started to rain.

as soon as we were pouring, it was really raining hard.

So hard in fact, that the sand and cement in the concrete started to wash away, and only the little rocks remained.

My dad was leveling the concrete while I was trying to keep the pump in control (and failed a few times… especially whit the last few drops.. the pressure on the pump is so high that you really have to hold on tight..)

leveling complete, quickly covering the wet concrete to prevent any more cement and sand seeping away..

all in all this was quite an experience, it only too 45 minutes, but I was really tired when it was finished.

the slab will need to set for a few weeks, then I can remove the casing..

the day after step 1:

I digged a trench 20 cm wide and 60 cm deep around the edge. this is to prevent frost below the concrete (according to a friend architect) put in some plastic, and cut some steel nets to size as reinforcement. (again an entire day’s worth of work)

concrete has been ordered, pouring will start after the week-end on august 20th

I started working on the foundations again..

Using the old wooden floor from the attic, I made the form.
I think I used about 80% of the floor panels to make this thing.
It resulted in a form that is 25cm high with 5 cm thick panels..and it is heavy..

pictures:

next step will be reinforcing the form and align it to be level.

then digging out the dirt and firmly attaching the form to the surrounding ground..

my my, it has been ages since my last post
